The name Heath Heathens, pronounced HEATH-ens,
originally came about when, upon deciding to begin a Heath Ledger
fansite, I needed a name that was catchy, preferably with
alliteration, and that hopefully
would be easy to remember.
That was my only
motivation when considering
name options. I
thought of Heath Heath-ens
and liked that it played on
Heath's name.
Unable to think of anything
else, I decided to go with
it.
Since then, I have become so
accustomed to the name that
I never give it
anymore thought. However, on
occasion I get the rare
email from someone
who is worried about the
concept behind the word
"heathens" and whether
they are comfortable
visiting a site with that
name. In order to clear up
any concerns, I decided to
take the unusual step of
addressing my own
spiritual affiliation. HH
Administration does believe
in God.
Religiously, I was raised a
"New
Testament" Christian in a
minister's household. While
to some, that could make the
name Heath Heathens seem
ironic, there is no hidden
meaning behind the name.
On HH, I have been very
careful to run a neutral
site, where I do not
espouse any particular point
of view from either side. My
assistants and
good friends are
representative of a wide
range of beliefs both
religiously and politically.
I chose to run HH this way
out of respect
for both Mr. Ledger and all
of you who visit. Heath has
a very large
variety of fans, and I know
that our admiration of this
gifted actor is
one thing that we all can
respect and love about each
other.
My efforts here have been to
make sure that I run a site
that treats Heath
with the dignity he
deserves, and that is
interesting, informative,
and
safe for any person of any
race, religion, gender, or
sexuality to enjoy.
I truly would not want
anyone to feel uncomfortable
here, and I welcome
every Heath fan out there to
come celebrate his work.
Now, five years after
opening this site, I am
proud that the name Heath-ens
has become synonymous with
"Heath Fans" in the same way
that Gyllenhaalics has
become synonymous with Jake
Gyllanhaal fans.
I hope you enjoy your visit
to Heath Heathens. And I'm
really happy to
have you here.
Sincerely,
Phyllis
