Mission Statement

"It makes front page news if you eat fettuccine on Tuesday, you know? It's very invading. All of a sudden you're very self-aware, very self-conscious about the way you drink water. I'm not used to that."        ~Heath Ledger

Mission Statement

The HH Mission Statement was a originally written as an open letter to Heath's Representatives.  It was written in 2005 at the launch of this site.  Since then, our original goal & intent has  remained the same.

An Open Letter to:

Mr. Steve Alexander, Licensed Talent Agent,  Los Angeles, CA

Mr. Simon Sinacori, Licensed Talent Agent, Sinacori Agency, Sydney NSW Australia

HeathHeathens.com is part of an idea that was conceived with the desire to create a community feeling within the Heath fansite family, thus eliminating unfriendly competition.

In creating HeathHeathens, my goal was to operate a respectful celebration of the actor Heath Ledger, with content that informs fans of the information they want to know, but still maintains a responsible boundary.   I strongly believe that it is essential for webmasters to remember that Mr. Ledger’s name is on our sites. Therefore, as a webmaster, I recognize the responsibility I have to honor that name in as considerate a manner as I can.

HeathHeathens attempts to keep fansites in perspective. HH strives to be professional and interesting, informative and enjoyable, as well as a place that promotes Heath's work. However, this is a fansite, not world politics or a cut-throat corporation. Therefore, my goal is to make HH fun and relaxing, and not stressful for its visitors or for the actor himself.

I have kept that goal in mind throughout the design process, and I keep it in mind when posting content and choosing paparazzi photos.

Because of this mindset, HeathHeathens.com will not be involved in internet politics, web-wars or pettiness, all of which detract from the reason for the site’s existence, which is three-fold:

• a celebration of the actor,

• an appreciation for and promotion of his work,

• and a creative outlet.

HeathHeathens hopes to offer an interesting perspective and unique content to separate it from other Heath sites. Along with Heath news, biography, filmography, and photos, HeathHeathens also has a special Australia section, which is an educational celebration of Heath’s home country. The Australia section includes informative content such as a brief overview of the country’s history, a section on the real Ned Kelly including the Jerilderie letter text, as well as fun sections including an Aussie slang dictionary and Aussie recipes. (Even recipes with vegemite are included.)

The HeathHeathens forum is used to house film articles, news and reviews. But there is also a members discussion area.  The message board will not focus on hurtful innuendo, or speculation, and does not post articles from sites such as Defamer, Perez Hilton, Ted Casablanca or Gawker. Although this decision may very well limit the membership and activity on the board, and may keep the site smaller and less competitive, I feel it best to focus on quality, instead of quantity.

Mistakes are certain to be made along the way; however, they will not be out of malicious intent. Any request by  representatives of the Ledger family for the removal of content will, of course, be honored as quickly as possible.

This mission statement is not an attempt to obtain any official endorsement, merely to lay out the standards by which this HeathHeathens strives to operate.

Sincerely,

Phyllis
